Document Summary

Apoptosis: this death isn"t random in nature. It is well defined and programmed based on how much ngf is present: this cellular death is very important in neuronal development. It is pre-programmed and it says that any cells that do not receive enough of their ngf needs to be eliminated: not random, and it happens in concert with synaptogenesis. Many neurons die: cell death is (cid:374)or(cid:373)al, (cid:373)ost (cid:374)euro(cid:374)s do(cid:374)"t sur(cid:448)i(cid:448)e. Looking at developing motor neurons in chick eggs: early in development, there is an over proliferation of the amount of motor neurons, before the chick hatches, there is a dramatic loss of those neurons. Looking at number of cells in humans: getting some indication that cell death is happening in embryogenesis. Rearrangement: neurons then have to go through an other massive stage of development that really characterizes all these critical periods we have talked about.
