PSY353H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Antisocial Personality Disorder, Moral Insanity, Psychopathy
Document Summary
The specific terms and diagnosis used to account for personality disorders have been debated amongst psychologists and psychiatrists for decades. Aspd and psychopathy can be classified as personality disorders related by their association to criminal behavior. Aspd is described as a continuous pattern of disregard towards the rights of others, since childhood. Psychopathy of the contrary, is explained by a variety of behavioral traits including impulsivity, absence of remorse or empathy, and irresponsibility. Although the creations and practical implementations of both constructs are intertwined, a number of researchers have considered the disorders separate, while others argue the two constructs are linked as they are separate measurement criterions for the same construct. This paper will examine and discuss the possible similarities and differences present between the constructs of aspd and psychopathy, through classifications, history of the creation and practical implementation, and the tools, criteria, symptoms of both disorders.
