The process by which people learn culture: a way to channel culture and filter it into people, eg: raising a child and telling them what is right and what is wrong. A sense of individual identity in relation to others. Gender: learning femininity and masculinity, gender sense of self, socialization of different standards, gender socialization begins right away. Civilization: social and political systems, communal vs. individualistic, whole systems vs. discrete, where you grow up has a direct effect on who you grow up to be. Primary socialization: mastering basic skills required for society, family. Secondary socialization: outside of the family, education, peers, media. Let"s take a deeper look at some of these . Hidden curriculum: teaching the value of merit (work hard, get rewarded, idea of deference to authority. Symbolic interactionism: early gender socialization, self-fulfilling prophecy. If you believe something to be true, you then subconsciously bring its occurrence to reality.
