Stratification is the way society is organized in layers or strata. Basically, a society"s hierarchical ranking of people into social classes. It"s like a ladder, where people are higher or lower than others depending on their class. It is related to education, language, crime and deviance, etc. It is related to class background and helps increase education levels and makes an individual more confident. As a child, bill played soccer, went to museums with his family, talked while at the doctors instead of having his mother talk for him, etc. He comes from a higher class background and will more likely immerse in higher class culture as an adult. The choices we make are constrained by family class background. Since class is like a legacy, as it gets passed from one generation to the next, it is hard to change classes throughout your lifetime. Social inequality is related to stratification and how it affects people"s lives.
