Sample: part of the population of interest that is selected for analysis. Population: the entire group which the researcher wants to generalize. Two types of questions on a survey: closed-ended questions: provides respondent with a list of limited answers (numerical code for each answer, open-ended questions: allows respondents to answer in their own words. To ensure surveys elicit valid responses researchers shouldn"t: exclude part of population from sample, reject people who want to participate, allow subjects to answer dishonestly, ask confusing qs.
