Hidden curriculum: unofficial agenda of school system authorities, norms of society, such as the value of work, respect for authority, efficient use of time, value of hard work and competition are taught in schools. Encourage development of separate youth culture: separate youth from adults, creates a youth market. Marriage market: social hegemony and propinquity causes you to find people you like at school. Custodial service: watches kids for you for free, a way to leave kids while adults go to work. Restrict job competition: youth aren"t competing for jobs; out of job market. Promote social change through critical, independent thinking: critique government actions. Education reproduces the class system and hinders class mobility. Preference, knowledge, behaviours, and goals are all class based. How someone speaks is a marker to someone"s class.
