As family ses background increases, the chance of attending university increases. Cultural capital makes it harder or easier on a child to make it to university. Media: any formats or vehicles that carry, present or communicate information. Mass media: print, radio, tv and other communication technologies that reach many people. Hegemony: a condition by which a dominant group uses its power elicit the voluntary consent of the masses. Structure: we are molded by our society; our lives are shaped by society. Immediate affect, and it is supposed to happen like that. (eg.
