Document Summary
Administrative law is the branch of the law that deals with government decision-making. It has evolved from the common law without becoming a particularly coherent body of law. Administrative law is grounded on the principle that. Powers can be validly exercised only within their true limits (tokar 1984:172). Administrative law applies to the administrative decisions made by government officials. The law applies to the decisions of both individual officials and tribunals. As individuals, we are probably more affected by administrative decisions than court decisions. Administrative law addresses the exercise of authority and, particularly, of the exercise of discretion by government officials. Sometimes there are internal appeal processes built into the particular program or benefit that provides for a review of the merits of the decision itself. The role of the courts in reviewing decisions of officials or tribunals is not usually to replace the decision of the government official with the court"s decision.
