Document Summary
Jurisprudence: most of this looks at an abstract set of rules: look at law in a sociological perspective. Law on the book: formal, written legal statues, legislation, acts, court decisions, and regulations as well as rules for their enforcement: official purpose of law is to resolve disputes peacefully, can be divided into public divide. Law is not consistent at all: we look at how law is socially constructed. Framework for analyzing law in action: some questions to ask. Example: the international symbol of access (since 1968) Where can you find this symbol: parking lots, bathrooms, transportation: buses, trains, subway stations, automatic buttons for doors. Who matters for the accessibility symbol: (legal actors: people with disabilities, support workers, people without disabilities, employers, property owners, government- creates, regulates and enforces law. How does disability law become important (law in action: able-bodies people do not use accessible parking spots. People want to avoid getting a ticket- law is effective.
