Law is enacted and enforced by individuals who belong to established groups and networks. Each group has a role in the legal system. Discretion: (agency) ability to make choices within the given bounds of a role. Hierarchy in the legal system hierarchies have two purposes: organize roles so that work gets done in a more or less efficient way, are means to control how people improvise within those roles. Social organization of law legal outcomes are patterned by a variety of factors: Organization of the system itself e. g. research shows that the regular players in the system court personnel, police, judges, etc. Behave in ways that prioritize efficiency in the system those that interact together on daily bases more likely to interact with other lawyer than a client.
