Consent & Acquiring Non-Consensual Sex!
-women are taught to fear rape and make necessary lifestyle adjustments to avoid this !
-women and girls are victims more often but mens nd boys are also at risk of being sexually
abused, seen in cases of men and women who hold power over younger boys, men being
abused by other men. Compared to rates of women and girls, mens victimization for this is not
as high. !
-Recorded numbers suggest - men are to be the perpetrators and women and girls are the
victims. Gender based abuse and sexual abuse isn’t always violent. !
-Presence of consent needs to be kept in might, whether consent was present or not. !
-Things such as if someone is able to give consent or not, things such as mental, physical, age
differences. Consent can also not be given if victim is in coma, alcohol and rug use also puts
limits to whether consent can be given or not!
Issues With Consent !
-Puts onus on victim to give consent instead of putting onus on offender to obtain it !
#-issue with onus on victim is that many victims say that during instance they were
scared, they were unable to verbally communicate their non consent. This court of law this
inability to say no is considered passive cause they didn’t put up a fight. !
-Victim feels they didn’t do anything to prevent it and feel wrong themselves. !
-Consent can also be seen as a static, if a victim had given consent in the past the implication
is that they gave consent this time as well or they consented to certain sexual acts then they
also consented to the act of sex. !
