SOC224H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Kendrick Lamar, Motivation, Rigour
Document Summary
Traditional: regimented and rules based approach (discipline and orderliness) Teacher focused - teacher knows what needs to be conveyed and they convey and direct everything in their own ways. Pre-1960"s idea - involves discipline and fear with an emphasis on memorization. Student centered - focus on student and their needs instead of teacher direction. Child centered and not curriculum centered teaching - mobilize natural desires to learn instead of forcing it upon the student. Learning should be active and directed by the learner. Aim to meet child/student interest - physical, emotional and intellectual. Intrinsically motivate the child - doing something because you want to and not because you"re being made to - ex study because of love of learning instead of being forced by teacher and society to learn. Schools are less regimented - teacher strictness and discipline decreased which is the extrinsic motivation method - includes performing on fear of teacher and consequences.
