Document Summary

Start off the lecture by talking about rob ford. There is an imbalance, 3 economic zones in mid 70"s,: core, periphery and semi-periphery: worth nothing, not class relation, but trade\exchange relations that is explaining it. State structure, the government/economy works corresponds to which of the 3 economic zones: core: centre, control trade, strong state, strong national structure, technological production, rich/modern, all the good stuff, periphery: back water, raw material. Raw stuff, states are weak, less autonomy, corrupt. Dominant class subordinate to the rich people in the core: semi-periphary: pluck of mountain, rising and falling states. Cesaire: between colonizer and colonized: very provocative piece, says colonizer replaces the savage culture by worse things, what is colonialism, it is creating boundaries, exploitation, establishing sovereignty. Angry, frustrated and trying to push change: counterfactual: if not for this, the thing out and see what would have happened. Pulling out a variable and then see what happens.
