Doing gender and doing gender means all of us are participating in upholding certain gender norms and order. We think doing gender is because of culture, religion, etc. but we don"t think of what institution is responsible for it. Different religions have different ways of gender expression so you can"t just say its because of religion. Rst wave: women began to ght for their rights. Before women were considered irrational, not having the capacity to think independently from their husbands and family. Second wave: came 50 years later (1960s and 70s) along with other types of civil rights movements. Ex. women started thinking is it my right to terminate my pregnancy? how about when i"ve been raped - the personal is political. People wanted to challenge oppressive norms, reproductive, and sexual rights. Radical feminism: women have different kinds of voices that need to be taken seriously. Focuses on equality under the law and everyone being treated equally.
