Federally sentenced women (fsw) increased by 30% between 2008-2018. 15% of the population is aged 50 or older. >70% are mothers to children under 18, 68% were sexually abused, 86% physically abused. Nearly 90% are classi ed as medium and minimum and they are twice as likely to have mental health offences, more likely to serve a shorter sentence, have a higher motivation for reintegration, etc. (compared to men). Aboriginal women increased more than 50% in 10 years and account for 40% of incarcerated women in canadian prisons. >2/3 of the total inmate population in prairies comprise of aboriginal women. Aboriginal women have been the fastest growing offender group in canada. The average age is 33 years old; non-aboriginal being 38 years old. 90% have experienced physical and or sexual abuse.
