Unequal pay getting paid for the same work. Women being good enough to get the job access to jobs. Family care- minimum 9 months out of the running. Physical strength was valued, women were seen as weaker. Women are seen as more sensitive or emotional. Gender gap always seems to be there, whether country to country. Three things we look for in explanations of social problems. How four biology-based processes lead to gender discrimination. Three ways social culture leads to gender discrimination. Immediate & root causes immediate causes- things that happen (ie. in the workplace) directly linked. 7 different causes for occupational sex segregation. root causes- underlying causes. Employer stereotypes in red = root causes; these lead to the immediate causes: biology: women who have babies. If men had babies there would be better child support: social culture. Biology is a fundamental root cause; it can cause other things but not much can cause it.
