In canada, considered all those aged 15 and older but divided into 3 subgroups: labor force: all individuals either in paid jobs or looking for work. Unemployed: those who don"t have jobs but are actively looking for work (past 4 weeks) Labor force = employed + unemployed: participation rate: the proportion of individuals who are active in the labor force. Inactive: those who do not have jobs and are not looking for work. Participation rate = labor force / population 15: interpretation: tells us about women"s and society"s attitudes about working. Whether they want to work; their confidence in the economy. Only counts paid work; unpaid work for women is important though.
