Objective phenomenon, it can be defined, measured. Develop a general theory of social control. Investigate how people think about the law, and use the law, rather than to measure and predict it. Thinks of law that people believe in, not divisible by the society. Law is sustained despite its tendency to divide the society because we buy into it. Three different ways people think about the law. Before the law: just and also majestic, largely separate from everyday life, relatively fixed to individual action, place different from everyday life. With the law: can be won by strategy, separate law from everyday life. Against the law: opposite of before the law.
