A decade after fox talbot"s negative-positve process had begun replacing the daguerreoty invented the first technique for retouching the negative. Photography made it possible for people to see themselves and others differently. Dr. robert w. gibbes, a nationally recognized paleontologist, hired local daguerreotypist j records of first and second generation slaves on plantations near columbia, south carolina. Swiss-born louis agassiz, the natural scientist and zoologist from harvard had spent a mont he asked gibbes to arrange for the photographs. Magazine is for western people to view non-western people.
