Document Summary

Emma larocque argues that to study any kind of human violation means being engaged in ethical matters. Talks about issues faced by aboriginal women in canada (hivs/aids. The 1867 indian act of canada was a national genocidal policy that was designed to kill native culture. Illegal adoptions, sale of children and casual removal of indian children into temporary foster care all happened. Sacred natural resources were taken by federal officers and new codes of religious morality that undermined authority of women were enforced by church officials. These racist policies continue to create challenges for native women since they face disproportionate poverty, violence and racist/sexist images of native womanhood. Native women are 2x more likely to live in poverty than non- native women. The annual income for native women is almost 5000$ less than non-native women in saskatchewan, 70% of natives in reserve communities and 46% off reserve live in sub-standard housing.
