Self reflexive: thinking through your own processes, processes around sexuality or any kind of identity approach to address heterosexuality by michael messner. He was sure at one point that he is 100 percent straight but later he figured that it wasn"t the case. He realized that things are not that clear. At 14 or 15 you start accepting the gender you are assigned. You are encouraged to reaffirm and perform that gender. Particularly men to establish their masculinity, the fact that they were a boy (do what boys do-get out and hang out and do your thing). The girls at that age becomes interested in boys, makeup, fashion and justin bieber. There is expectation that certain kind of performances take place. Sports is an arena masculinity is performed in a rigid way-wrestling , football-it is understood in the context of victory, goal. Anytime it goes beyond court it becomes problematic-unstable masculinity.
