Himani bannerji: there is a silence that pervades talk about violence against women in racialized and immigrant communities. She argues that a reason for this silence might have to do with the responsibility it puts on us for making ourselves responsible to ourselves and others. She writes after all what we say in print, becomes part of an acknowledged, even official reality, liable to be seen as a distinct political position . Many people remain silent about what"s going on because when you say something that discourse shape your lives. In a context where women are isolated & very little means of negotiating in which violence is happening, where language make it difficult for women to talk about their situations. There"s many things like morality becomes more entrenched regulated what women say or do. She talks about why there"s a silence that pervade these communities; if women say something, they feel they will make matters worse for the community.
