Paula wilcox: author argues that men work to achieve a form of coercive-consensus- which is maintained and at times challenged by the woman in a violent situation. She argued early conceptions of power as negative force and top down-down challenged. Power no longer conceptualized as belonging to one person to be wielded over the other. Foucault"s idea of power has been helpful in challenging the power over model of power. He argued that power circulates and is diffuse and there is always resistance. Wilcox questions if this understanding of power is adequate enough to explain the power men wield over women in present society. She argues that foucault"s approach helpful in demonstrating that power need not be negative and that we are all implicated. Power is not centralized in the way we understand it. in terms of what we"re seeing in the world, we can"t support any action that is in destroying humanity.
