Theories of sexualities notes in colour are excess information mentioned during lecture. In the early 19c in the us the heterosexuality did not exist. What existed was romance between middle class white americans characterized by purity. Early victorian true love only realized through marriage and procreation. First you had the conception of procreation and love. And that only happened in a specific kind of content. Keep in mind when reading these things is that white theorists also, they often speak from a particular place. Ex. you speak of marriage, procreation and pure love, it seems like nowhere else was there anything like love and intimacy. What people tell us is that those things did exist, but they were no names for such things. The naming came into existence specially around sex and sexuality around european context. Sometimes you hear people in the south say, they had no name for homosexuality, lesbian or gays. Women defined by their distance from lust.
