Document Summary

In laura wilson"s story communication difficulties, the writer employs interesting narrative techniques that appeal to me. She approaches communicating with her readers using character exposition. She artfully starts off by saying that she called on her mother anytime she felt depressed or resentful. The sentence instinctively created an image of a strong mother archetype in my mind. However, reading on i found that it was quite the contrary. She remarks on how their conversations were pointless and void of sincere affection. She introduces her mother"s persona with implicit characterization. Her mother"s temperament could be deduced from her behaviour and the dialogues exchanged between the two. For instance, in the first conversation the mother"s reaction seems indifferent to the fact that her underage daughter went to a bar, got drunk and woke up the next morning at a stranger"s place. In the exchange of dialogues, the author uses colloquialism as any other adolescent would have done in the situation.
