Start up open house toronto - sept. 29 @ 3-7. Emergence of scanning: everyone has a story to tell. Everybody scans now: readers trained to ignore, gloss over etc. You have to have something remarkable to say, raises bar of expectation. Jeff goins write for alliterate, functionally illiterate people. People choosing not to read: reading on screen is slower, more tiring. How to make your blog scannable: lists, formatting, headings/subheadings, pictures, borders, space, creatively reinforce main points, don"t bury your points. Lists: evidence suggests posts with bullet point lists get linked to a lot more, don"t overdo it. Formatting: bold, capitals, italics, font size, colour, style -> rule of 3 alterations (within page fold and/or on entire page) Headings: visual cues of what"s happening, draw readers further into article -> headings for one are, subheadings for specific points (can briefly summarize what blog will discuss) Pictures: place pictures by key points (cookie crumbs, encourage readers into piece)
