Document Summary

Modern synthesis: population is a group of organisms of the same species that are interbreeding, microevolution can tell us something that is expected to happen at the level of macroevolution. Microevolution & macroevolution: we"re goi(cid:374)g to talk a(cid:271)out e(cid:448)ide(cid:374)(cid:272)e for ea(cid:272)h of these. Evidence for darwinian evolution: we should see evidence and patterns, for evidence for macroevolution, we need a timescale of millions of years. Evolution under domestication: e. g. , tons of information on how we domesticated dogs. Canis lupus were domesticated, humans artificially selected traits. Diversity risen through artificial selection: e. g. , bull terrier change in shape is result of single gene. Degree of curvature in muzzle shape is directly related to the length of development gene: e. g. , selection on plants. Tomatoes are a great example, selected diversity for size, taste and colour: difference between artificial and natural selection: agent of selection (human breeders vs. environment), this is still microevolution.
