34 views3 pages

Document Summary

Motor vehicles are the largest source of air pollution as stated by the environmental. Statistics show that around 33. 1% of the population in china live in cities meeting the national ambient air quality standards (walsh,m et. al, 2007). Poor air quality due to fossil fuel emission causes serious health issues involving respiratory, heart problems and more. This is because fossil fuel emission from motor vehicles exposes them to carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, photochemical oxidants and more. Carbon monoxide can cause a serious threat to people who already encounter problems with their heart, like heart disease. Carbon monoxide is an odourless and invisible gas formed when the fuels contain carbon and are not burned completely. It delays the transport of oxygen from the blood into the tissues causing headaches, dizziness, nausea and deteriorating of the cardiovascular system conditions (walsh,m et. al, 2007). Nitrogen oxides are formed in the high heat combustion in the engines of motor vehicles.
