East african rift where the african plate is being torn apart. The dominate rock type there is called flood basalts (lava containing basalt). Rift basin a crack in a continental plate, which will widen and turn into an ocean (east african rift). The separation of the east african rift is pushing countries like turkey, which is causing earthquakes. The red sea is spreading which is pushing the arabian and african plate to the north. Both of the plates are moving north, but in different speeds (causing turkey to shift as well to the west), creating the effect that they"re sliding past each other (african plate is moving slower).
