Over the years, there has been great controversy surrou(cid:374)di(cid:374)g this issue: i(cid:374) regards to (cid:449)hether it (cid:448)iolates so(cid:272)iety"s ethical and moral issues or that it the best option for a patient to end their life painlessly (dorman 2010). However, it does not go far enough, existing limitations on assisted suicide prevent patients from being able to end their life in a painless and merciful way. The legality of assisted suicide places a restriction on the age limit that entitles one to be able to suggest for assisted suicide. According to criminal code, minors under the age of 18 are not eligi(cid:271)le for assisted sui(cid:272)ide, as they are (cid:374)ot (cid:862)(cid:373)ature(cid:863) or (cid:862)i(cid:374)tellige(cid:374)t(cid:863) e(cid:374)ough to (cid:373)ake the de(cid:272)isio(cid:374) to e(cid:374)d o(cid:374)e"s o(cid:449)(cid:374) life (cid:894)o(cid:374)drey 200(cid:1010)). However, according the mature minor doctrine minors are allowed to make decisions regarding their medical- including the decision to withdraw from life support (harris 2005).
