Document Summary

Lecture 03 - where does intelligence come from. Nonverbal group test typically used in educational settings. There is a relationship between genetics and environments that one is raised in. We often use the term intelligence as if we were talking about a single characteristic a person possesses we typically talk of someone being intelligent or not. But let"s consider another characteristic" for a moment athletic capability. We could ask someone to perform a number of tasks and based on their performance, come up with a measure of athletic ability. Example: a person that performs really well at baseball because he practices, he is considered a superstar athlete, but when you put that person in basketball, they may not be a superstar anymore. The idea that general intelligence (g) exists come from the work of charles. Spearman (1863-1945) who helped develop the factor analysis approach in statistics.
