The dynamic organization within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his [or her] unique adjustments to the environment: personality has an integrative quality that comes together to create a whole, revised definition (1961): Example: trait = humour: when i feel safe and comfortable with the people i"m interacting with allows me to test out more jokes so basically it organizes and accounts for some of my behaviour not all. People can have the same trait but it may not be organized the same way between different people. Traits are the strangle holds on our behaviour and if they are unique between us means that it"s a trait concept not a factor concept: traits cardinal, central, secondary. Central trait that categorizes significant areas of an individual"s function. Secondary trait categorizes specific areas of an individual"s functioning. Limited in scope, less central in person"s life, we all have dozens of secondary traits.
