Cns: brain and spinal cord - all tissue in mininges, vertebral column, cranium. Hydrocephalus: water on the brain - ventricles blocked and fluid can"t go down anymore ; devopment, injuries, cancer pressure impinges on surrounding brain tissue can cause death or decreased levels of consciousness. *cns and pns are continuous with each other. Neural stem cells can become neurons or glia. Interneuron - spinal cord, reflexes that are instantaneous; projecting - brain; oligo - Bipolar - cell body +axon on one side and dendrite on the other. Oligo. and schwann insulate lipid sheaths around axons; oligo. found only in cns and. Schwann found only in peripheral ns (same function though) Basal ganglia - sort of gray matter made of nuclei and cells w/i the nuclei. (optic nerve and optic tract distinguished anatomically but continuous) Beginnning: neural tube filled of fluid elongates and starts to differentiatie primarily at the front end - allows for diff. of cells.
