Document Summary
Ast101h1 f - lecture 4 notes (total lunar eclipse will occur on sunday; 27/9/2015 @ 21:07 - 28/9/2015 @ ~12:00) (continued from lecture 3 notes") Venus most notably has a thick co2 atmosphere and is similar in size to earth. The planet rotates slowly, but also backwards. Due to heavy co2 atmosphere, planet"s runaway greenhouse effect maintains a consistent temperature of 460 degrees celsius at the temperature. Mars has a very thin co2 atmosphere. The planet has terrain features similar to earth, such as volcanoes (extinct) and water-carved canyons, suggesting that the planet was once habitable like earth. Lots of subsurface water discovered on mars. Asteroid belt is a collective, orbit-shaped mass of rubble piles (they number in the 1000"s or millions) Rubble piles" are supposedly material left over from the solar system"s formation. Said materials is prevented from turning into a planet by jupiter"s tides. Jupiter is not necessarily a gas giant", but rather a liquid giant".
