Document Summary

Darwin: respected in many countries, unmentionable in others (very controversial theories) Concept of changing universe- replaced view of a static world. Phenomenon with no purpose- replaced view that the courses of all phenomena had to have a purpose. Lamarck was the first to use the term evolution, but had some incorrect views (thinking there was no evolutionary tree, believed things went from point a to point b right away) August weisman germplasm noticed the error because inheritance is through germ cells and not soma cells, so genes cannot transfer through these calls, only some genes are inherited while others are developed in the person. The correct mechanisms was developed by darwin & wallace. 1844: darwin wrote, after traveling, but did not publish on natural selection. 1858: manuscript from wallace, the darwin-wallace paper was presented, and darwin started writing. Origin of series book: all organisms have descended with modification from common ancestors, modification, is natural selection acting on variation.
