Geometric to Orientalizing Periods. 1100 BCE – 600 BCE
Aegean Bronze Age: Crete and Cyclades (3000-1200 BCE)
One of the islands circling the mythological birth place of
Zeus?
Early Bronze Age – 3000-2000
Middle (2000-1825/1725)
Late – Until 1200
oMany palace structures are destroyed, volcano erupted
– Crete
Separated into Crete, Mainland and Cyclades.
Third Millennium (3000-2000 BCE)
Cycladic Figurines
Mostly female figures, done with the island’s marble. (the
islands had a lot of marble), don’t know the function of them,
a collector’s item due to their minimalistic style.
Due to its popularity, many ‘fakes’/copies were created.
Harpist and Flutist EC II, 2800-2300 – Non-canonical form.
Used to have paint on them (the painted part was more
elevated than other parts of the marble) – Used this fact to
find the real from the forgeries.
“Palace of Minos” @ Knossos, Crete.
Myth: Minotaur.
Paintings done on the walls
Bull Leaping Fresco – athletic exercise? Figure would leap in
front of the bull and somersault over it.

Golden Age – living side by side with god, Age of Silver,
Bronze Age, Age of Hira – (the period in which the Trojan War
happened; race of demigods), Age of Iron (more mortal than the
other ages)
