Document Summary
Shows the extent at which gentrification has influenced in academia. Think about gentrification in a more critical way. Gentrification is the transformation of a working class or vacant area of the central city into middleclass residential and/or commercial use. Gentrification is (cid:862)the production of space for progressively more affluent users(cid:863) Encompasses much more broader and complex urban change in our time. Its instead an incremental process and slowly taking place. We think that when it happens poor people are pushed out and done. Even when high income people come in, poor people still live in. Displacement it is not just physical. (cid:862)a different picture of gentrification emerges if one takes the trouble to talk to those who do (cid:374)ot sta(cid:374)d to profit fro(cid:373) the risi(cid:374)g costs . We need to think about who gentrification works in terms of racism. Class conflict: high income vs low income. The state a(cid:374)d go(cid:448)er(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t plays a sig(cid:374)ifi(cid:272)a(cid:374)t role i(cid:374) the (cid:862)free (cid:373)arket(cid:863)
