Research focus: representation, how are knowledge or ideas represented in the world, sources: words, images, photographs, art, media, etc, what happens if we question or challenge representations, othering (capital o, the process of magnifying differences and undervaluing similarities. Why is this so: media representations are one of the main tools responsible for the perpetuation of social myth around disability, including its construction of otherness . Research sites: two media campaigns, (1) portuguese super athlete project, (2) united kingdom"s channel 4 freaks of nature . Research methods: media analysis critical assessment of, marketing campaigns and logos, television coverage, documentaries. Another point: structure vs. agency: there is a fine line between passivity and adjustment that needs to be negotiated by people with disabilities which sometimes forces them to conform to standardized, Able-bodied" view of performances : people with disabilities only have so much agency since structures are built with able-bodied individuals in mind.
