Lide 4: the o(cid:374)goi(cid:374)g mystery & co(cid:374)tro(cid:448)ersy of (cid:862)little al(cid:271)ert(cid:863) Experiment in psychology that is infamous (around 1920) Known for its contribution of associative learning and fear conditioning: well known for ethical problems as well. They show albert animals like a dog and white rat and he has no reaction: (cid:862)pre-trai(cid:374)i(cid:374)g(cid:863) Now every time they show him the white rat, they bang a steel pot which sound scared him: they then do this every time he sees the rat. Then they show him the rat without the sound and he becomes afraid of the rat: he has come to associate the rat with this loud scary sound. This fear generalized to other white fluffy things i. e. afraid of santa clause beard: evidence of generalization. This is a fear-conditioning process (cid:862)little al(cid:271)ert(cid:863) (cid:374)e(cid:448)er (cid:449)e(cid:374)t through a(cid:374)y de-conditioning process due to problems in the lab. Relatively permanent change in behaviour or knowledge, resulting from experience.
