Self-awareness: awareness of the self an as entity that is distinct from other and the environment, know that we have our own thought and behaviours, etc, tested with the mark test (rouge test) They put a mark on your face and put you in front of a mirror. If you touch the mark or try to wipe it away, it shows that you have some self-awareness of you. Aware that the mark is on your face. More for a species that relies on vision. Not every species" primary sense is sight. Some animals rely of smell or hearing. Some may not think that the mark is abnormal or they are not bothered by it. Levels of the self: minimal self. Conscious experience of the self as distinct from the environment: objectified self. Cognitive capacity to serve as the object of one"s own or someone else"s attention: symbolic self (narrative self)
