Education: major theoretical approaches to sociology of education. C. cooley"s concept of the looking glass self the sense of self we develop is based on how we think others see us. We develop a sense of self based on our interactions with others. We see our self in other peoples reactions and behavior towards us. The education system (primarily primary and secondary schools) are the terrains where we develop this sense of self with others. This is why parents are often concerned with what school their child goes to because this is the place that builds their identity. Sociology presents itself as one type of science, science is one form of truth (there are other ways), but the scientific way is one based on observation (we know x, because we observed many cases of x) Variable: a concept that varies from situations to situations (i. e. socioeconomic status, level of poverty, marital satisfaction etc. ).
