ANTH 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Homo Heidelbergensis, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus
Document Summary
Archaeological record: the material remains of the human past and, in some cases, the description of the human past based on the material remains. There is no consensus on what the exact definition of the archaeological record is. The primary database of archaeology is the physical remains of human activities - these are not restricted to human biological remains. Other major kinds of material remains investigated by archaeologists include archaeological sites, artifacts, features, ecofacts, and cultural landscapes. Archaeological sites can be defined as any location with physical evidence of past human activity. Base camps: discrete areas with physical evidence that people were temporarily occupying a place for resource processing or habitation. Habitation sites: areas with physical evidence indicating that people were living there, at least temporarily. Resource processing sites: areas where physical remains indicate that people were harvesting and/or processing resources.
