Brown bear: coastal and world lineages. Looked a cytochrome (B? C?). Polar bear separated from ABC
bears only 200,000 years ago.
Independent coastal and continental histories among North American wolves. Lineages represent pre-
glacial genotypes.
We have northern and southern migrations but lineages have remained distinct.
K1 cave. Port Eliza cave: on Vancouver Island. Ice caused Haida Gwaii to bulge up.
Matthews: paleoecology and ice limits of the early Fraser glaciation.
Caribou feeding on lichen near a bird colony. Guano enriches lichens (high N content). Speculation for
the incredible enrichment in this isotope signature of this caribou.

Bull frog: probable northern dispersal from Washington. Highly predatory and competitively superior in
pond. Carrier of chytrid fungus.
European Grey Partridge: introduced 1870. Now widespread.
Chukar Partridge: introduced 1950 from Eurasia. Central BC.
California Quail: introduced 1860. Common on southern Vancouver Island.
Mountain Quail: introduced from Europe late 1800s.
Ring-necked Pheasant: from Asia ~ 1890. Widespread in many regions of BC.
Indian Peafowl: from India ~ 1890.
Wild Turkey: from southern US in 1910.
