Ice coming down from alaska to ship to san fran. Aboriginals (tlingit) were the labor forced used to cut the ice out of alaskan lakes, and from glaciers coming out of the sea. Hudson"s bay company got in on the ice trade. Tried to sell ice to hawaii as well, but it did not work very well as the ice melted in the tropical sun. Hudson"s bay also got into the ice trade to try and stop the americans from encroaching into british columbia. 1862 a large ship arrived from san fran here on the island, one of the arrivers had small pox, usually these people would be quarantined. This person however was not, and the illness spread across the island to many. Railroad was being built and the chilcotin people were used for labourers on the railroad, supplies go missing and the while settlers blame the aboriginals for stealing them.
