Conventional vs. gf mice conventional = mice with normal microbiota. Slide 31 > conv. vs. gf mice cont"d. Study: comparison was done between gf and x-gf mice. Note: ex-gf means they were germ free initially and then given amicrobiome. Looked for changes in the population to see which metabolites changed. Reveals what metabolites are dependent on microbiota (both produces and consumes metabolites) Less metabolites in gf mice (bacteria responsible for those metabolites as seen in ex-gf) If they are the same > metabolites not depending on the microbioms (host secretions) If gf have more than the ones with bacteria = bacteria consume the metabolites. Comparison of blood plasma (blood should not have bacteria but will have metabolites) shows the microbiota has impact on blood chemistry. Venn diagram shows overall, small boxes show small number of metabolites we can +vely identify. Microbiota influences host production of metabolites (ex: serotonin) Shows bacteria can exert effects without direct physical contact.
