This is a political doctrine that says whoever is affected has a political say. Liberalism and democracy came together during the french revolution and american revolution to create liberal democracy. The state tradition and nation tradition are directly at odds with the liberal tradition and they pull at it. Liberal doctrine is universal and doesn"t recognize borders. The other to say that they have cultures and traditions to protect. Hobbes, locke, rousseau suggested that civil society is your private life. Your private sphere of life is larger and important. There is a radical separation in liberalism between private and public spheres. The public and interfere with private otherwise it"s an interference to your individual autonomy.
