Change is a process that include:
Pre-contemplation (not really thinking about it)
Contemplation (start to think about it)
Preparation for the action (buy the gear)
Action (go to the activity / class)
Maintenance (continue)
Termination (behaviour becomes so much a part of a routine that you stop thinking
about it)
You can relapse between contemplation and preparation or the subsequent steps.
Limitation: It does not help individuals who relapse find where to start back up again.
Child Health Psychology – Context and Concerns
Health psychology interchanging with behavioural medicine as both involve biological,
behavioural, and medical sciences or prediction and modification of illness and disease.
Wellness and illness lie on a continuum either known to the individual or unbeknownst
(Albert Bandura – Social learning theory)
Illness often becomes a stressor that undermines an individual’s self-reliance and sense of
independence, shatters illusion of invulnerability, and forces life-style changes.
Ongoing stress may lead to depression, anxiety, and PTSD
