Document Summary

Proteomics means a lot of different things to different people. A couple different techniques are applied to proteomics. Proteomics looks at looking at entire expressed protein complement of a given. Immunoprecipitation falls into class of proteomics cellular state. Another incorporation of proteomics is functional proteomics. Functional proteomics is when we talk about more than one protein in order to have some sort of functional consequence. Protein complexes fall under proteomics as well. One of the most important tools for identifying protein complexes is some sort of affinity chromatography step. We are using antibodies as our functional group on the stationary phase. It is immobilized onto the resin in order to serve as the chromatography stationary phase. Through the variable regions, you can have a high affinity for the protein of interest that allows you to fish out the one protein of interest from a huge soup of thousands of other proteins.
