ENGL 1289 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Double Entendre
Document Summary
The literary tradition as we take as important, we deem as critical. Prion to the 1960"s we did not deem that women"s literature was important: women"s literature was rarely published, barely had access to the schooling. Only been since 1960/70"s since they have been discovered. Have been published in the norton anthology of literature. It is called reclaiming and recovery: works that already exists and elevating them to seem more important and making it more accessible, you start getting lots of material. It is important because we see a trend (a history: there is a pattern of materials, not just quantity. Not many women models ahead of them! They were different than the rest: precarious/risky position to stay in. Like other man may have: in the 19th century women changed their names to male names. The authors of today used their own named. Audience: who is the audience if you"re a women writer.
