Document Summary

Significance is absolute, either you have it or you don"t for your selected level of significance (alpha) So far, all the statistical tests we"ve learned have been for interval/ratio level data ex. continuous data. The chi-square test allows us to test the null hypothesis for nominal and ordinal data ex. categorical data. So far, the nh has been a statement of no difference (between groups, or btwn a sample and its population) For the chi-square test the nh is a statement of no relationship or a rela- tionship due to chance. Tries to determine if there is a significant association/correlation btwn two cate- gorical (nominal or ordinal, not scaled) variables. If we reject the nh there is a significant association btwn the 2 variables. If we fail to reject the nh any association btwn the two variables that is present is due to chance. The kinds of research questions we can answer.
